Fun Stuff

As an unrepentant seminar junkie, this year’s been a bummer… or maybe not. In person conferences and workshops were cancelled, but not completely. There’s been an explosion of online conferences taking their place, and I’ve attended several so far. There are a couple more I’m looking forward to before the end of the year. My CEU obsession is happily fulfilled.

What I’m training right now

Rally Novice with Tor
The AKC has introduced an option to earn your Rally Novice title virtually! Since I’m not likely to be competing in person for a while, Tor and I are working on his Rally Novice title.

The program lasts until the end of 2020. Watch the calendar for dates that I’ll be setting up courses and helping clients film their rally runs for their own RN titles.

Scent work with Tor
Another of our interests is scent work. Tor’s been training hard, so I do anticipate he’ll be competing before long.
Scent work trials are much easier to practice social distancing at, so we’ll be entering trials soon.

I’m also training him to detect low blood sugar – not as an official diabetic alert dog, but as a challenge for me. My work with an assistance dog organization, and studying effective methods of training DADs prompted my interest.

Obedience and Rally with Quinn
Once I feel safe and comfortable entering trials again, I want Quinn to be ready! After all, she’s already blazed through the first levels, and qualified for the Rally National Championship in Rally Advanced.

Look for her in the Obedience and Rally rings next year.
